Statement and Samples

This series of work marks a pivotal shift in my approach to painting. With a reduction in both materials and subject matter I have found a connection to the humble house plant. They create the oxygen that powers my body and in a reciprocal cycle I provide carbon dioxide to them. Taoist thought has found its way into every crevice of my life, painting being no exception. While not in the traditional Sumi style, the work is informed a great deal by the same core understandings of nature.
